FNB eBucks Rewards: How Earning, Levels & Redemption Work

Source: existing AfrifinHub article. Original WordPress modification: 2026-09-17. This is not a new fact-check date.

How this page is verified. Mechanics below (levels, payout date, redemption options, expiry, transfer rules) are sourced from FNB’s official eBucks and Private Clients Rewards pages, and reporting on FNB’s July 2026 earn-rule changes. FNB does not publish its exact reward-level points table in one place, so this page describes the qualifying activities at a general level rather than claiming precise point values — confirm your specific level and points in the FNB App’s “Track My Rewards” tab.

What is eBucks?

eBucks is FNB’s points-based rewards programme, built into the FNB App rather than run as a separate loyalty card. It’s a rewards currency you earn from banking behaviour and card spend, which you then redeem separately for value — distinct from cashback and from direct retailer discounts, even though FNB bundles all three into the same “Rewards” experience in its app.

Rewards (eBucks)

Points you earn from banking behaviour and spend, redeemed later for fuel, shopping, travel or cash.

Cashback

Direct rand-for-rand money back, like Pick n Pay’s own Smart Shopper programme layered alongside eBucks.

Discounts

An upfront reduced price at checkout with a specific partner — see the Card Discounts & Offers page for current deals.

How you qualify

How eBucks works depends on your account tier. Easy and Aspire customers qualify more simply and start earning rewards directly from card spend. Premier, Private Clients, Private Wealth and RMB Private Bank customers instead collect reward-level points from everyday banking behaviour — using the FNB App, protecting your family with FNB Life, holding an FNB Connect SIM, and similar actions — which determine which of the 5 reward levels you sit at each month.

For Private Clients and above, you generally need both a qualifying credit card and current account linked to earn beyond the base Level 1 — holding only one product keeps you on Level 1 regardless of your points. Some customers pay a small monthly fee (around R17.50) to link additional cards to their eBucks profile; others qualify at no extra cost depending on their product mix.

The 5 reward levels

Your reward level is reassessed monthly based on your points from the previous month, so it’s genuinely possible to move up or down between months depending on your banking behaviour. FNB reduced the points required to reach each level from 1 July 2026, making the higher tiers somewhat more attainable.

Account tierLevel 5 threshold (from 1 July 2026)
Premier9,500 points
Private Clients11,000 points
Private Wealth13,000 points

FNB doesn’t publish the full points table for every level and every qualifying action in one place — the FNB App’s “Track My Rewards” tab shows exactly what’s needed to move up from your current level, and is the most reliable source for your specific position.

Ways to earn points and eBucks

  • Everyday card spend, especially on the Virtual Card, at eBucks retail partners
  • Using the “Track My Rewards” and “Earn More eBucks” sections in the FNB App
  • Engaging with nav» Money features in the app
  • Holding FNB Life insurance, an FNB Connect SIM, or paying qualifying bills through FNB Pay Bills
  • Taking out or switching a home loan to FNB, which can unlock move-in vouchers and milestone rewards at years 3, 6 and 9

How to redeem eBucks

eBucks are paid out on the 15th of each month for the previous month’s activity — FNB calls this “eBucks PayDay.” Once in your balance, you can redeem them in several ways:

  • Fuel and in-store partners: swipe your eBucks card and enter your 4-digit eBucks PIN at partners including Engen
  • Online shopping: select “Pay with eBucks” at checkout with participating online partners
  • Travel: redeem for flights, with discounts of up to 80% off selected local and international routes through eBucks Travel
  • Transfer to cash: convert eBucks to cash in your FNB account, subject to a minimum transfer and a transfer fee (commonly cited as a R50 minimum with a R10 fee, netting R40 cash — confirm the current fee in the FNB App before transferring)
  • Vouchers: since eBucks themselves aren’t transferable to another person, you can buy a voucher with your eBucks and give that to someone else

Redeeming for fuel, travel or partner vouchers generally gives better value than converting straight to cash, since the cash conversion carries a fee that direct redemption doesn’t.

Do eBucks expire?

Yes. eBucks expire after 3 years of inactivity on your rewards account. Simply earning or redeeming eBucks — even a small amount — resets the expiry clock, so an account used normally effectively never expires. If you don’t plan to bank actively with FNB for an extended period, it’s worth redeeming or transferring your balance before it goes untouched for 3 years.

Frequently asked questions

How many eBucks reward levels are there?

Five. Premier, Private Clients, Private Wealth and RMB Private Bank customers move between them monthly based on points collected from banking behaviour; Easy and Aspire customers earn more directly from card spend.

When are eBucks paid out?

On the 15th of every month, for activity in the previous month. FNB calls this “eBucks PayDay.”

Can I transfer eBucks to another person?

Not directly — eBucks themselves aren’t transferable between accounts. You can buy a voucher using your eBucks and give that voucher to someone else instead.

Do eBucks expire?

Yes, after 3 years of complete inactivity. Any earning or redemption activity resets the 3-year clock.

Can I use eBucks to pay my FNB account fees?

No. eBucks can be redeemed for fuel, shopping, travel, vouchers or transferred to cash, but they can’t be applied directly to FNB account or card fees.

How this page is verified. Each offer below carries its own “Last Verified” date and is sourced from FNB’s official promotions pages or joint statements with the named retail partner. FNB offers change frequently — a “Valid Until” of “Ongoing” means no published end date was found as of the Last Verified date, not that the offer is guaranteed to continue. Always confirm a specific offer is still live in the FNB App before relying on it.

This is a snapshot of FNB’s larger, constantly-updated partner network, not an exhaustive list — FNB’s eBucks partner base also includes Woolworths, Dis-Chem and others whose specific current rates weren’t independently confirmed at the time of writing. Check the FNB App’s Rewards section for the complete, always-current list.

How to use a card-linked offer

  • Most offers require simply paying with your linked FNB card (physical or virtual) at the partner — no separate activation is usually needed
  • Some offers, like Pick n Pay’s Burger Friday, require an additional loyalty card (Smart Shopper) swiped alongside your FNB card
  • Eligibility and the exact percentage often scale with your account tier and current eBucks reward level, not a flat rate for everyone
  • Check “Earn More eBucks” in the FNB App before a big purchase to confirm the current rate applies to your profile

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to activate FNB card discounts?

Most partner discounts apply automatically when you pay with your linked FNB card — no separate activation. A few, like Pick n Pay’s Burger Friday, require an additional loyalty card swiped at the same time.

Do these discounts apply to every FNB account tier?

No. Rates typically scale by tier — for example, Pick n Pay’s in-store discount is Premier and above, while Aspire customers get a fixed monthly voucher instead of a percentage-based reward.

How often do FNB’s partner offers change?

Frequently. FNB has swapped and adjusted partners before (for example, replacing Shoprite and Checkers with Pick n Pay during 2025), so always check the FNB App for the current live offer rather than relying on a static list indefinitely.

Is the Engen fuel discount available to every FNB cardholder?

The base rate requires qualifying reward-level behaviours; the enhanced combined rate with Clicks requires fuelling exclusively at Engen and meeting monthly spend thresholds at both partners.
