What products does Nedbank offer?

MiGoals bank accounts

Nedbank’s everyday account range is called MiGoals. The base MiGoals account is a pay-as-you-use cheque account with no monthly maintenance fee, charging only for the transactions made. MiGoals Plus costs R99 a month (R49.50 for customers 55 and older or aged 18–26) and adds a free Platinum debit card, free Greenbacks membership, a linked MyPocket savings account, and a range of included transactions such as free card purchases, debit orders and limited free ATM withdrawals and deposits. MiGoals Premium costs R250 a month and adds a fee-free credit card facility, a fee-free overdraft facility, and airport lounge visits, with discounts of up to 50% for seniors and customers aged 18–26.

Private Clients and Private Wealth accounts

For higher-income customers, Nedbank offers Private Bundle and Private One accounts at R470 a month, and a Private Pay-as-you-use account at R190 a month, each with an optional credit card and overdraft facility. Under-30s with a four-year or honours degree qualify for Private Bundle Young or Private One Young at a 50% discount (R235 a month). Nedbank Private Wealth Bundle, aimed at individuals with income over R2 million a year or R5 million in investible assets, costs R600 a month.

MiGoals4Kids and youth/seniors banking

MiGoals4Kids is a fee-free account for children under 18. The MiGoals, MiGoals Plus and MiGoals Premium accounts are also offered in discounted youth (18–26) and seniors (55+) versions.

Greenbacks rewards

Greenbacks is Nedbank’s rewards programme, offering cash back and lifestyle discounts for banking, spending and saving with Nedbank. Membership is free with MiGoals Plus, MiGoals Premium and Private Clients Bundle accounts; MiGoals pay-as-you-use customers can join for a R35-a-month linkage fee. Cardholders earn more Greenbacks on Amex-linked cards than on Mastercard or Visa cards, and can redeem Greenbacks as cash at any Nedbank ATM.

Credit cards

Nedbank’s credit card range includes standard Nedbank Mastercard and Visa cards, a fee-free MiGoals Premium Credit Card bundled into the MiGoals Premium account, Private Clients credit cards offering up to 3 times income, and American Express Gold and Platinum cards. Amex cardholders are automatically enrolled in the American Express Membership Rewards programme, earning points on eligible spend, in addition to any Greenbacks earned.

Personal loans

Nedbank offers personal loans from R2,000 to R400,000 over terms of 6 to 84 months, with a personalised interest rate based on the applicant’s credit profile, up to the applicable National Credit Act maximum a year. A monthly service fee of R69 and a once-off initiation fee (capped at R1,207.50, inclusive of VAT) apply. Nedbank pays Greenbacks rewards for on-time loan repayments and does not charge an early-settlement penalty.

Who is Nedbank best suited for?

Nedbank suits South Africans who want the flexibility of a full-service, branch-backed bank with a genuinely tiered account range — from an R8-a-month pay-as-you-use option through to a premium account bundled with a fee-free credit card and overdraft. It’s a strong fit for customers who value rewards: Greenbacks pays cash back on everyday spending and even on personal loan repayments, and the Amex card range adds a second, points-based rewards layer on top. It also suits customers who want in-person banking alongside digital tools, since Nedbank maintains a nationwide branch and ATM network as well as the Money app and Online Banking. It’s a weaker fit for customers whose only priority is the absolute lowest possible monthly fee, since some digital-only competitors charge nothing at all for a comparable transactional account.
