Nedbank’s credit card categories explained
Nedbank Gold and Platinum (Mastercard/Visa)
These are Nedbank’s standard-issue credit cards, aimed at everyday earners (Gold) and higher earners who want travel perks (Platinum). The Gold Credit Card requires a minimum income of around R5,000 a month and starts from R40 a month. The Platinum Credit Card requires a monthly income of at least R29,000 before tax and a healthy credit score, and comes with preferential debit interest rates, free basic travel insurance, and access to Bidvest airport lounges for qualifying spend.
MiGoals Premium Credit Card
Customers on the MiGoals Premium bank account (R250 a month) get a credit card facility bundled in at no extra monthly maintenance or credit facility fee. This is the most cost-effective way to add a Nedbank credit card if you’re already considering the Premium account tier.
American Express Gold and Platinum
Nedbank’s Amex cards are issued for higher earners who want to maximise rewards. Amex cardholders earn Greenbacks at double the rate of Mastercard/Visa cardholders — 4 Greenbacks for every R10 spent, versus 2 Greenbacks for every R10 on a linked Nedbank Mastercard — and are automatically enrolled in the separate American Express Membership Rewards programme, earning around 1 to 1.5 Membership Rewards points for every R5 spent depending on the card. Platinum Amex cardholders also get up to 12 complimentary domestic airport lounge visits a year and automatic basic travel insurance of up to R3 million when return travel tickets are bought on the card.
Private Clients Credit Card
Available only to Nedbank Private Clients accountholders (Private Bundle, Private One or the Young variants), this card offers a personalised credit line of up to three times the customer’s income, along with local and international travel perks.
SAA Voyager Credit Card
For customers who prefer air miles over cash-back rewards, Nedbank’s SAA Voyager Credit Card earns Voyager miles instead of Greenbacks on eligible spend, with a minimum monthly income requirement from around R3,000. It suits frequent SAA flyers more than customers chasing cash-back value, since miles must be redeemed through the Voyager programme rather than as cash at an ATM.
Fees and interest: what to expect
All Nedbank credit cards offer up to 55 interest-free days on purchases, measured from the first day of the statement period to the payment due date, provided the full balance is settled. Interest rates are personalised based on the applicant’s credit profile rather than fixed per card — third-party comparisons put typical Nedbank credit card rates in a broad range depending on card type and risk profile, so the rate quoted on your own application is the one that applies to you. Card swipes carry no transaction fee, and cardholders are not charged an initiation fee on the MiGoals Premium, Private Clients Bundle or Private Clients Pay-as-you-use credit cards.

Nedbank business credit cards
Everything above covers personal credit cards. If you’re looking for a card for your business instead, Nedbank runs a separate business card range:
| Card | Who it’s for | Key terms |
|---|---|---|
| Nedbank Small Business Credit Card | Startups, SMEs and sole proprietors with a minimum annual turnover of R150,000 | Once-off initiation fee around R277; first two cards free, each additional card carries a monthly fee; earns Greenbacks |
| Nedbank Business Card | Established businesses with a minimum annual turnover of R360,000 | Revolving-balance credit with rewards on spend |
| Nedbank Business Cheque Card | Established businesses with a minimum annual turnover of R360,000 | Charge-card style — no interest if the outstanding balance is settled in full each month |
To apply, you’ll need a copy of your ID, proof of income (3 months’ bank statements or payslips), and — if you’re a sole proprietor — an earnings letter from your accountant or financial manager confirming your monthly and annual income. Business card fees, interest rates and Greenbacks linkage terms are updated periodically in Nedbank’s business rates and fees guide, so confirm current pricing on business.nedbank.co.za before applying.
