Nedbank Money App: How-To Guide (Reverse Payments, Cash Send & More)

Source: existing AfrifinHub article. Original WordPress modification: 2026-09-20. This is not a new fact-check date.

Quick answer: Most everyday Nedbank tasks — reversing a debit order, sending or cancelling a cash send, checking your balance, buying airtime or electricity, and adding a beneficiary — can be done on the Nedbank Money app, Online Banking, or by dialling *120*001# from any phone (no airtime or data needed). This guide covers the most-searched tasks step by step, using Nedbank’s own published steps where available.

How to reverse a payment on the Nedbank app

What you can reverse depends on the type of payment. There’s no single “undo” button that works for every transaction — the steps differ for a debit order versus a Send Money (cash send) payment.

Reverse or dispute a debit order (official Nedbank steps)

  1. Log in to the Money app with your Nedbank ID, app PIN or fingerprint
  2. Select the account the debit order was deducted from, then select Debit orders
  3. Choose the debit order you want to reverse
  4. Select Reverse debit order and choose a reason for the reversal
  5. Confirm by selecting Reverse debit order again
Not all debit orders can be reversed — there’s a limited window after the debit was processed. If you never authorised the debit order at all, dispute it instead by calling the Nedbank Contact Centre on 0800 555 111, rather than using the reversal option.

Cancel a Send Money (cash send) payment

  1. Open the Money app and go to the Pay tab
  2. Select Send Money
  3. Find the transaction under your recent Send Money payments
  4. If it’s still eligible, you’ll see a Cancel option — select it and follow the prompts
This only works if the recipient hasn’t withdrawn the cash yet. If the number you sent to doesn’t exist, or the collection PIN expires (after 30 days unclaimed), the money returns to your account automatically. Once withdrawn, a cash send generally can’t be reversed — contact the Nedbank Contact Centre on 0800 555 111 if you sent money in error and it’s already been collected.

Everyday Money app tasks

Check your balance

Open the Money app and your account balances show on the home screen once logged in. Without logging in or using data, dial *120*001# from any phone and follow the USSD prompts — this works even without airtime.

Send money / do a cash send

On the Money app or Online Banking, go to Pay, select Send Money (cash send), enter the amount and the recipient’s cellphone number, and confirm. The recipient gets an SMS with a collection PIN to withdraw the cash at any Nedbank ATM without needing a card or account.

Buy airtime, data, electricity or vouchers

On the Money app or Online Banking, select Buy, then choose airtime, data, prepaid electricity, or a gift/prepaid voucher. Enter the amount and the cellphone or meter number, select the account to pay from, and confirm. The same options are available by dialling *120*001# via USSD, or *130*001# to buy airtime even if you have none left on your phone.

Pay accounts and bills (e.g. DStv)

Use the Bill Payments feature on the Money app or Online Banking: select the biller (such as DStv), enter your account or smart card number and the amount, and confirm. Paying bills this way also earns Greenbacks if you’re a member — see the Rewards page for details.

Add a beneficiary or recipient

On the Money app or Online Banking, go to your list of recipients or beneficiaries, select Add, and enter the person’s name, bank, account number (or cellphone number for a Send Money recipient), and reference. Once saved, they’re available for future transfers without re-entering their details each time.

Get proof of payment or a bank statement

Find the transaction in your account history on the Money app or Online Banking and select the option to view or send proof of payment — you can typically email or share it directly. Full account statements (including the latest 3 months) are available as free digital statements on the app or Online Banking under your account’s statement section; older statements may carry a fee if requested through the Contact Centre.

Increase or change your daily limit

On the Money app, go to your card or account settings and look for transaction or daily limits, where you can view and adjust your ATM withdrawal and payment limits within Nedbank’s allowed range. Some limit increases may require additional verification for security reasons.

Block, freeze or replace a card

On the Money app, select the card in question and use the freeze/block option to temporarily disable it if it’s misplaced, or permanently block it if it’s lost or stolen. For a lost or stolen card specifically, also call 0800 110 929 immediately (see the Helpline page) — freezing it in the app doesn’t replace reporting it.

Transfer money to another bank (e.g. to Capitec, FNB, Absa, Standard Bank)

Use the Pay or Transfer option on the Money app or Online Banking, add the recipient’s bank, account number and branch code (or use Nedbank’s universal branch code 198765 for the sending side), enter the amount, and confirm. Standard EFTs between banks typically clear within a few hours to the next business day; PayShap-enabled transfers using just a cellphone number or ID can be near-instant if both banks support it.

Download the Nedbank Money app

Search “Nedbank Money” on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and install it, or scan the QR code on Nedbank’s website. You’ll need a Nedbank ID to log in — existing clients can register for one from within the app using their ID number and cellphone number; new clients can also open an account directly from the app.

Banking without an app: USSD and cellphone banking

If you don’t have a smartphone, data, or even airtime, you can still bank with Nedbank. Dial *120*001# from any cellphone to access cellphone banking — checking balances, sending money, buying airtime, data and electricity, and more — entirely over USSD, at no cost beyond your Nedbank transaction fees. Nedbank’s MobiMoney service goes further: registered by dialling *120*002#, it lets you send and receive money, buy airtime or electricity, and deposit or withdraw cash at any Nedbank ATM using only your cellphone number — no bank account or card required.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reverse any payment on the Nedbank app?

No. Only debit orders (within a limited window) and unclaimed Send Money payments can be reversed or cancelled through the app. Once a cash send has been withdrawn or a card payment has gone through, you generally can’t reverse it yourself — contact the Nedbank Contact Centre on 0800 555 111.

How do I stop a debit order permanently, not just reverse one payment?

Use the Stop Debit Order option in the same Debit Orders section of the Money app, which blocks future attempts from that same biller, rather than only reversing a single already-processed debit.

Can I bank with Nedbank without a smartphone?

Yes. Dial *120*001# from any cellphone for full USSD cellphone banking, or *120*002# to register for MobiMoney, which doesn’t require a bank account at all.

Do I need airtime to use Nedbank’s USSD banking?

No. USSD banking works without airtime or data. You can also dial *130*001# specifically to buy airtime for yourself when you have none.

How do I get my Nedbank ID to log in to the app?

Existing Nedbank clients can register for a Nedbank ID from within the Money app using their South African ID number and cellphone number. New clients can also open an account and create a Nedbank ID in the same flow.

Nedbank Branches & ATMs: Find a Branch, Hours & Passport Service

Source: existing AfrifinHub article. Original WordPress modification: 2026-09-20. This is not a new fact-check date.

Quick answer: Nedbank operates 539 branches and 345 ATMs across South Africa, as reported in its interim results for the six months to 30 June 2026 (down from 546 branches a year earlier, as the bank shifts more services to digital channels). The fastest way to find your nearest branch, ATM or foreign exchange point is Nedbank’s own locator at nedbank.co.za — branch hours and services vary by location.

345

3.5m

3.18m

Like the other major South African banks, Nedbank has been reducing its branch and ATM footprint over the past few years as more clients move to digital banking — its branch count is down from a 2023 peak of 547, and it has removed roughly 250 ATMs over the past five years. Nedbank is also piloting next-generation self-service branches as part of this shift, alongside its existing self-service kiosks that combine unattended machines with on-site support when needed.

How to find your nearest Nedbank branch or ATM

Nedbank’s official “Find a branch” tool lets you search by address, suburb or postcode and returns the nearest branches, ATMs and foreign exchange-capable branches, along with directions, contact numbers and the services offered at that specific location. Because individual branch hours, services and even locations can change, this guide points you to the official locator rather than publishing a static list that can go out of date.

Typical Nedbank branch hours

Most Nedbank branches operate Monday to Friday, with reduced hours on Saturdays and most branches closed on Sundays and public holidays. Some branches — particularly those in shopping centres — keep longer hours than a standalone branch. Exact opening and closing times vary by branch, so always confirm the hours for your specific branch using the official locator before visiting, especially around public holidays.

Get a Smart ID or passport at a Nedbank branch

Nedbank is one of six banks (alongside Absa, FNB, Standard Bank, Discovery Bank and Investec) partnering with the Department of Home Affairs on the eHomeAffairs bank-branch service, letting you apply for a Smart ID card or adult passport without visiting a Home Affairs office at all. As of July 2026, this service is available at 428 participating branches nationwide across all six banks — a large expansion from the original 2023 pilot. To use it: register on eHomeAffairs at eservices.dha.gov.za, choose “Apply for Smart ID” or “Apply for Passport,” complete the form, select a participating Nedbank branch and appointment date, and pay via the Money app or Online Banking (use your Nedbank profile number, found in the app, with bank user ID “1”). On the day, Home Affairs staff — not Nedbank staff — capture your biometrics and photo at the branch; your finished document is typically ready for collection 10 to 14 working days later. This service isn’t available at every Nedbank branch, so confirm a specific branch offers it before booking.

What to bring to a branch

  • A valid South African ID book, ID card, or passport (with work permit for foreign nationals)
  • Proof of address if you’re opening an account or updating your details
  • Your latest payslip or 3 months’ bank statements if you’re applying for credit, a loan or a credit card
  • Any related account or reference numbers if you’re following up on an existing query

For a personal loan application specifically, let the branch host know you’re there to apply — they’ll direct you to a personal loans consultant, and even in-branch, the application itself is completed digitally on Nedbank’s system.

Banking without visiting a branch

Many everyday tasks — opening an account, applying for a loan or credit card, switching your salary and debit orders, or getting help from Enbi, Nedbank’s digital assistant — can be done entirely through the Nedbank Money app or Online Banking, without a branch visit. This is often faster than an in-person visit for straightforward applications and account management.

Getting help digitally: Enbi, Help Centre and the Money app

Nedbank’s digital assistant, Enbi, is available 24/7 on the Money app and Online Banking for balance queries, transaction help and general account support. Nedbank also runs a self-service Help Centre with step-by-step how-to guides covering common tasks — creating a Nedbank ID, activating a card, switching your salary, setting up PayShap, and more — so many queries can be resolved without contacting a consultant at all. For digital-channel or statement-related queries specifically, you can also use the free live chat on the Money app or Online Banking, or email digitalhelp@nedbank.co.za. All of this runs alongside the phone Contact Centre and Nedbank’s nationwide branch network, so customers can choose the channel that suits an issue best.
