Ithala Bank Personal Loans: MyCash, Cash Advance & Pension-Backed (Not Currently Available)
Source: existing AfrifinHub article. Original WordPress modification: 2026-09-20. This is not a new fact-check date.
Ithala’s FSP licence has been suspended since 2024, and it is prohibited from concluding new business, including new loan agreements. If you have an existing Ithala loan, National Treasury has confirmed that loan repayments must continue into a dedicated Absa account (account no. [payment details withheld: confirm directly with the authorised administrator]) — not to Ithala directly — as part of the repayment administration process. See the News & Updates page for the full background.

MyCash Loan
The MyCash Loan is Ithala’s product for immediate, short-term cash needs. As with Ithala’s other lending products, specific interest rates, fees and repayment terms aren’t published in detail on Ithala’s public pages — ask for the current rate and full cost of credit before signing.
Cash Advance
A Cash Advance lets clients borrow against funds they already have invested with Ithala, rather than applying for a new unsecured loan. This can be a lower-friction option if you already hold a qualifying Ithala savings or investment product, since the advance is secured by your own funds.
Pension-Backed Loan
The Pension-Backed Loan is specifically for buying, building or improving immovable property. It is secured either by a company guarantee or by a pledge of the applicant’s pension or provident fund benefits, which means eligibility depends on your employer’s fund arrangement with Ithala or a similar institution. This product suits employed applicants who have accessible pension or provident fund backing but may not qualify for a conventional home loan on income alone.
Home loans and rural home loans
Ithala offers home loans for buying property, with a rural home loan option aimed at property purchases in rural parts of KwaZulu-Natal — an area many mainstream lenders serve less actively. As with other Ithala credit products, get a full, written breakdown of the interest rate, initiation fee, monthly service fee and total repayment amount before accepting an offer.
Can I apply for a new Ithala loan right now?
No. Ithala’s FSP licence suspension prohibits it from concluding new business, which includes new loan agreements of any type — MyCash, Cash Advance, Pension-Backed, home or vehicle finance. If you already have an Ithala loan, National Treasury has confirmed repayments must go to a dedicated Absa account ([payment details withheld: confirm directly with the authorised administrator]), not to Ithala — continuing to pay Ithala directly, or stopping payment altogether, could affect your credit record. Contact the call centre (080 133 1130) if you’re unsure which account applies to your loan. If you need a new loan, you will need to consider a different, fully licensed lender for now.
