The R7.00 (Pay-As-You-Transact) and R195 (All-In) Grow Account fees above were confirmed directly on Bidvest Bank's official personal banking page. Older cached sources show a R6 admin fee and R175 All-In fee, so pricing has moved up over time — always check the current fee schedule on bidvestbank.co.za before opening an account, since fees are reviewed periodically.

How the Grow Account's fee compares to other SA entry-level accounts

Most comparisons of South Africa's cheapest bank accounts online are several years out of date, so pricing shifted since they were published. Here's how the Grow Account's Pay-As-You-Transact fee stacks up against other entry-level transactional accounts, based on each bank's own published pricing as of mid-2026:

AccountMonthly admin fee
Bank ZeroR0
GoTyme Bank (formerly TymeBank) EveryDay AccountR0
FNB Easy Zero AccountR0
Standard Bank MyMoR0 (fee scrapped from 1 January 2026)
OM Bank (Old Mutual)R4.95
FNB Easy PAYU AccountApprox. R5.25
Bidvest Bank Grow Account (PAYT)R7.00 + per-transaction costs
Capitec Global OneR7.50
Nedbank MiGoalsR8.00

On headline monthly admin fee alone, the Grow Account sits in the middle of the pack — cheaper than Capitec and Nedbank's entry accounts, but more expensive than the growing group of zero-fee digital accounts (Bank Zero, GoTyme Bank, FNB Easy Zero, and Standard Bank's MyMo since its January 2026 fee change). Where the Grow Account differentiates itself isn't the base fee — it's the bundled EasyEquities fractional share investing and the Bidvest World Currency Card ecosystem, which none of the zero-fee digital accounts offer built in. Whether that's worth the fee gap depends on whether you'd actually use the investing feature; if you wouldn't, a zero-fee account plus a separate free EasyEquities account gets you the same investing access without the R7+ monthly cost.

Comparison fees sourced from each bank's own published pricing where available (Capitec, and reputable 2026-dated banking coverage cross-checking multiple banks' own pricing pages) as of mid-2026. Bank fee schedules change at least annually — treat this table as a snapshot and confirm current fees directly with each bank before deciding.

Grow Accountâ„¢

The Grow Account is a 3-in-1 personal account: everyday transacting, a savings pocket, and linked EasyEquities share trading, all managed through the Bidvest Bank mobile app. It pays interest on positive balances, supports instant QuickPay transfers to other Grow Account holders, buying airtime, data and electricity, and tap-and-go card payments. Cash can be deposited into the account at Spar, Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, Makro, Usave, Game, Flash, Pep, Boxer, Ackermans or Builders Warehouse tills.

  • No minimum income requirement to qualify
  • Choice of Pay-As-You-Transact or a flat All-In monthly fee
  • Free access to EasyEquities share trading through the linked account
  • Interest earned on positive balances in the account
  • Proof of residence and positive identification required to open

How the EasyEquities investing feature works

Opening a Grow Account automatically issues a Bidvest Bank Investments account, powered by EasyEquities, with its own user ID (a 5–6 digit number starting with "BV"). Rather than buying a set number of shares, you choose a Rand amount to invest in a particular share or fund, and fractional shares are bought based on that amount — useful for investing small, regular amounts rather than needing the full price of one share upfront. Prices shown are delayed (the previous trading day's close, updated as you refresh), trading hours follow the exchange you're investing on (JSE for South African shares, US market hours for American shares), and shares bought are held in custody by First World Trader Nominees (Pty) Ltd on your behalf.

What real users say about the app before you sign up

Bank marketing pages rarely mention this, but it's worth knowing before you commit: user reviews on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store for the Bidvest Bank mobile app repeatedly raise a few specific, recurring issues — most notably that one-time PIN (OTP) delivery can take a long time to arrive, sometimes long enough for the transaction to time out; that adding or activating a new card has, for some users, required deleting and reinstalling the app rather than working directly in-app; and that the app doesn't offer in-app chat support, so issues typically need a phone call. These are user-reported experiences rather than confirmed, universal facts about the app's current state — app updates can and do fix reported bugs over time — but they're consistent enough across independent reviews to be worth factoring in, particularly if you're relying on fast OTP delivery for time-sensitive payments.

One-to-One Business Account

Bidvest Bank's flagship business account comes with a dedicated business banker as a single point of contact, rather than a call centre queue. Business clients can add a prepaid business payment card for controlling petty-cash and expense spending, apply for an overdraft facility, and access merchant acquiring services so that card payments taken through Bidvest Bank's merchant solutions reflect in the account the next business day.

Bidvest Bank internet banking and login

Personal and business internet banking for Bidvest Bank is accessed at online.bidvestbank.co.za, separate from the World Currency Card's own login portal (used only for that prepaid travel card) and separate again from the GPO Portal (used by business/corporate clients for forex and trade finance — see the Forex & World Currency Card page for that). Bidvest Bank explicitly warns that it will never ask you to confirm or provide personal or banking details via SMS or email — treat any message asking you to "verify" your login details this way as phishing, and report it to fraudsquad@bidvestbank.co.za. If you're having trouble logging in or need to register for the first time, contact the service centre on 0860 11 11 77 rather than searching for a login link from an unfamiliar source.

For everyday mobile banking, the main Bidvest Bank app (for Grow Account and personal banking) is separate from the dedicated Bidvest Business Banking app, which is built specifically for business account features like beneficiary payments and public beneficiary payments.

Call Account & Notice Deposits

The Call Account starts from a R1,000 minimum deposit, with no fixed term — you can deposit and withdraw at any time, and the interest rate improves as your balance grows. You can choose to capitalise the interest, let it compound, or have it paid out to a nominated account. Notice Deposits, from a R5,000 minimum, work similarly but require you to give Bidvest Bank advance notice — a choice of 2, 32, 41, 61 or 91 or 121 days — before withdrawing, in exchange for a better rate than the Call Account.

Fixed Deposit Account

The Fixed Deposit Account requires a minimum deposit of R10,000 and locks that sum for a chosen term of 2 to 12 months at a fixed rate, with no monthly account fee. Customers can choose to have interest paid out monthly or in full at the end of the term, or reinvest it for another fixed term, making it suited to individuals or businesses that don't need access to the funds before maturity. Pensioners aged 55 and over qualify for a preferential rate on the 12-month Fixed Deposit option.

Bidvest Bank publishes a dated "Deposit and Investment Interest Rate Sheet" as a downloadable PDF on its personal savings and investment page (dated 1 June 2026 at the time this article was checked). Interest rates change and are confirmed only on receipt of funds — download the current sheet from bidvestbank.co.za rather than relying on rates quoted by any comparison site, including this one.
