Source: existing AfrifinHub article. Original WordPress modification: 2026-09-17. This is not a new fact-check date.

Quick answer: Capitec’s core account is Global One, priced at R7.50 a month with a R30 minimum balance. Attached to it are four optional savings plans — Access Anytime (up to 6.00% nominal, no lock-in), Notice Deposit (4.00%–7.25% nominal on 7- or 32-day notice), Fixed-Term Savings (6–60 months, rate fixed for term), and Tax-Free Savings. Transaction fees are flat: R1 to pay another Capitec client, R2 to other South African banks, and R10 per R1,000 for ATM cash withdrawals anywhere in SA. Pricing shown is valid from 4 June 2026.

Global One Account

Global One is Capitec’s single transactional account, combining everyday banking, savings access and credit eligibility. It costs R7.50 a month and requires a minimum balance of R30. It comes with a Mastercard debit card usable locally and internationally, and can be managed through the Capitec app, USSD banking, internet banking, or in branch.

How to open a Global One account

Accounts can be opened online, via the Capitec app, or at any branch, with a South African ID or a valid passport with the relevant permit for non-residents. Applying in branch lets you walk out with a physical card the same day.

Capitec confirmed in early 2026 that it would carry its 2025 pricing structure into 2026 unchanged — independently corroborated by South African financial press covering the announcement, in addition to the fee schedule published directly on capitecbank.co.za.

Access Anytime savings

Access Anytime is Capitec’s flexible savings plan attached to a Global One account, with no monthly fee and no minimum balance. Interest is tiered by balance and paid nominal annual compounded monthly (NACM).

BalanceNominal rateEffective rate
R0 – R24,9992.00%2.02%
R25,000 – R99,9993.00%3.04%
R100,000 – R249,9994.50%4.59%
R250,000+6.00%6.17%

Funds in Access Anytime remain available at any time through the app, USSD or Capitec ATMs — there’s no lock-in period.

Interest earned across all your South African savings accounts combined (not per bank) is tax-free up to R23,800/year if you’re under 65, or R34,500/year if you’re 65 or older — a SARS-set threshold, not a Capitec-specific one. A Tax-Free Savings account is separate: it lets you contribute up to R36,000 per year (a SARS-set annual limit) with no tax on the growth at all, though early access costs R300 in branch.

Notice Deposit

Notice Deposit lets you deposit any amount at any time, with no monthly fee, no minimum balance and no maximum balance. You choose a 7-day or 32-day notice period; interest is higher on the 32-day option and rises further with balance, and can be reinvested or transferred to a linked savings account.

Balance7-day nominal7-day effective32-day nominal32-day effective

Rates float with market conditions and are not fixed. Nominal is the annual rate if interest is paid out monthly; effective is the annual rate if interest is reinvested (compounded) monthly.

Fixed-Term Savings

Fixed-Term Savings locks in a rate for a chosen term of 6 to 60 months, with no monthly admin fee. The rate is fixed for the full term, and once the term matures the account automatically becomes an Access Anytime savings plan (which can then be refixed if you want a new term).

OptionTermDeposit rules
Single deposit6–60 monthsOne lump sum, minimum R10,000, maximum R20 million
Multiple deposit6–60 monthsDeposit any amount, as often as you like, up to a total of R1 million

Capitec’s fixed-term rate tables are published on the official site by amount and term and were not itemised in full on the page at time of writing — confirm exact current rates for your chosen term and amount at capitecbank.co.za/personal/save/fixed-term-savings/ before committing funds.

Is my money protected?

Capitec Bank Limited is a licensed South African bank, authorised as a Financial Services Provider (FSP46669) and registered as a Credit Provider (NCRCP13). Qualifying deposits are covered by the Corporation for Deposit Insurance (CODI) up to R100,000 per depositor — the same standard of cover that applies across other licensed South African banks.

Checking your balance and getting statements

The fastest way to check your Global One balance is in the Capitec app, which shows it immediately on login without any transaction cost. If you don’t have the app or data available, dial the USSD code *120*3279# from your registered cellphone number to check your balance, view recent transactions, or buy airtime — this works on any basic phone and doesn’t require a data connection.

Bank statements, proof of account letters, and proof of payment can all be generated for free in the app under Menu → Documents, and downloaded as a PDF instantly. If you need a bank confirmation letter (sometimes called a bank verification letter) for a loan application, visa, or new job, this is the same free, instant document — you don’t need to visit a branch or wait for one to be posted. A statement covering 1–3 months is free through the app; requesting one in branch costs R6.00.

Cash Send: sending money without a bank account

Cash Send lets you send money to someone who doesn’t have a Capitec account (or any bank account at all), which they can then withdraw in cash. To send one, go to Transact → Cash Send in the app, enter the amount and the recipient’s cellphone number, and they’ll receive an SMS with a withdrawal code. Cash Sends can be withdrawn at any Capitec ATM, at a Capitec branch, or at participating retail till points (such as major supermarkets) without needing a card. If the recipient hasn’t withdrawn it yet, you can cancel a Cash Send yourself in the app — once it’s been withdrawn, it can’t be reversed.

Sending and transferring money

You can send money to another person using just their cellphone number via PayShap — Capitec’s real-time payment system that works across participating South African banks, without needing their full bank account and branch details. PayShap payments cost R1.00 between Capitec clients and R2.00 to other banks. For standard EFTs to another bank account (using the account number and branch code), use Transact → Pay in the app; these cost R2.00 for a regular payment or R6.00 for an immediate payment. Transfers between your own Capitec accounts are instant and free.

How long transfers to and from other banks take

Transfer typeTypical time
PayShap (any participating bank, using cellphone number)Near-instant, generally within minutes
Immediate payment (EFT) to/from FNB, Standard Bank, Nedbank, AbsaNear-instant, generally within minutes
Standard (non-immediate) EFT to/from another bankSame working day if made before the bank’s daily cut-off, otherwise the next working day

Exact timing can vary by receiving bank and time of day. If a transfer hasn’t reflected after a full working day, contact Capitec’s Client Care Centre to check the payment status.

Linking SASSA and other external accounts

To have your SASSA SRD grant paid into a Capitec account, update your banking details directly on the SASSA SRD website (srd.sassa.gov.za) using your Capitec account number and the universal branch code 470010 — Capitec doesn’t process this change on SASSA’s behalf, so it must be done through SASSA’s own portal. For linking external services like PayPal, use your Capitec account number, branch code 470010, and SWIFT code CABLZAJJ where an international routing or SWIFT code is requested; Capitec doesn’t use a separate “routing number” in the US sense, so international platforms asking for one should be given the SWIFT code instead.

Branch and app operating hours

The Capitec app, USSD banking (*120*3279#), and online banking are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including public holidays — there’s no “closing time” for digital banking. Branch trading hours vary by location and are typically shorter on Saturdays and closed or reduced on Sundays; check the specific hours for your nearest branch using the official branch locator, since hours differ between standalone branches and those inside shopping centres with extended trading hours.
