Absa Rewards Explained: Tiers, Cashback & Partners

Rewards tiers
Absa assigns a monthly Rewards score based on the number of qualifying products you hold, your banking behaviour and your engagement with the programme (such as app logins and completing challenges). Your tier — and therefore your cash-back rate — is calculated fresh each calendar month and can move up or down.
Absa’s own partner pages confirm the cash-back rate that applies at each tier for standard partner offers:
| Tier | Cash back rate |
|---|---|
| Tier 1 | 1.5% |
| Tier 2 | 3% |
| Tier 3 | 5% |
| Tier 4 | 10% |
| Tier 5 | 30% |
On the score thresholds themselves, Absa doesn’t publish a full official table, but independent tracking of the programme puts Tier 1 at 0–489 points and Tier 2 starting at 490 points, with further tiers requiring progressively more points to reach. Treat the exact Tier 3–5 cut-offs as unconfirmed until Absa publishes them directly — your in-app Rewards dashboard will always show your current, accurate score and tier.
Earning cash back
Absa Rewards partners span groceries, fuel, travel, dining and entertainment. Grocery cash back is capped at R3,000 in combined monthly spend across grocery partners (in-store, online and ASAP), with an additional R1,000/month specifically for online and ASAP grocery spend. Caps and specific partner offers vary by category and can change — Absa periodically adds or removes partners, so it’s worth checking the current partner list in the app rather than relying on older third-party reviews.

Frequently asked questions
Does Absa Rewards cost anything to join?
No, joining Absa Rewards is free, with no monthly membership fee.
Is Absa Rewards a points system?
No. Absa Rewards pays real cash back into a Rewards wallet rather than issuing points or vouchers.
How is my Absa Rewards tier calculated?
Your tier is based on a monthly score reflecting the qualifying products you hold and your banking engagement, and it can change from month to month. Tier 1 covers 0–489 points and Tier 2 starts at 490; each tier unlocks a higher cash-back rate, from 1.5% at Tier 1 up to 30% at Tier 5.
What is the maximum cash back Absa Rewards offers?
Up to 30% cash back at partner retailers, depending on your current Rewards tier, plus additional cash back on general card spend.

How this differs from Absa Rewards
Absa Rewards is the standing cash-back programme available on qualifying Absa cards year-round — see the Absa Rewards page for how tiers and everyday cash back work. The offers on this page are separate, time-boxed promotional campaigns Absa runs with specific partners, often at a higher percentage than the standard Rewards rate for a limited window, and they don’t require a specific Rewards tier to access (though your final cash-back rate can still depend on your tier).
A note on completeness: Absa runs a very high volume of promotional campaigns — dozens run at any given time, and many expire within days or weeks. Rather than attempt a full list (which would inevitably include lapsed campaigns), this page tracks a curated set of current, higher-value offers. For the complete, up-to-the-minute list, check absa.co.za/offers directly.
