How to Register & Log In to Absa Online Banking
“Absa Online Banking” and “Absa Internet Banking” refer to the same service — Absa’s web-based banking platform at absa.co.za, separate from the Absa Banking App. Here’s how to register and log in.
Registering for the first time
- Go to absa.co.za and click Logon in the top right of the homepage, then select Register for Digital Banking.
- Enter your ATM card number and ATM PIN, then tap Continue.
- Confirm your contact details and accept the verification request sent to you.
- Accept the Personal Client Agreement and tap Continue.
- Select your access account and billing account for Online Banking.
- Choose a strong 5-digit PIN under Absa Online Security Information, confirm it, and click Register.
You’ll be taken straight to your Absa Online main account page once registration is complete. Business accounts register differently — see the note below.
Logging in
- Go to absa.co.za and click Logon in the top right corner.
- Enter your access account number, PIN and user number (this defaults to User 1 unless you’ve been allocated a different user number).
- Complete the captcha if prompted, then click Next.
- Enter the requested characters of your password, then click Log in.
Registering a business account
Business accounts must first be registered for Online Banking in person at an Absa branch, where you’ll be issued a combi card number by your business banker. Once that’s done, go to absa.co.za, click Logon, select Business from the dropdown, then Register, and follow the Business — Create New PIN steps to set your own login PIN.

Reporting fraud through the app
Absa’s Fraud Hotline (0860 557 557) operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Fraud can also be reported directly through the Absa Banking App: tap the telephone icon to report fraud, then select “Call me back” for a consultant to phone you.
Cellphone (USSD) Banking — no app or internet needed
Dial *120*2272# from any mobile phone — smartphone or basic feature phone — to access Absa Cellphone Banking. No airtime, data or internet connection is required, which makes it a genuinely useful fallback if the Absa Banking App or website is temporarily unavailable, or for customers who don’t use a smartphone at all. Once registered, enter your 5-digit Cellphone Banking PIN to reach the menu.
Through this menu you can check balances and mini-statements, send money via CashSend, pay bills and prepaid electricity, buy airtime, play Lotto and Powerball, and redeem Absa Rewards cash. CashSend via Cellphone Banking has a minimum of R50 and a maximum of R500 per day, per Absa’s own published limit. To register, dial the code and follow the prompts, or ask at any Absa branch.
Absa Banking App or Online Banking not working? Try this first
Most login and app errors are fixed without needing to call Absa. These steps follow Absa’s own troubleshooting guidance, in the order to try them:
- Update the app. Open your app store (Google Play or Apple App Store) and install any pending Absa Banking App update — outdated versions are the most common cause of login loops and crashes.
- Free up storage space. If updating doesn’t help, check your device has enough free storage — a nearly-full device can stop the app working properly.
- Clear the app’s cache — not its data. In your device settings, find the Absa Banking App, open Storage, and tap Clear cache. Avoid Clear data, which deletes all app information and forces you to relink the app from scratch.
- Check your device isn’t jailbroken, rooted, or too old. An “Unsupported device” message means your device’s operating system can no longer be updated (end-of-life) or has been jailbroken/rooted — both are security risks Absa’s app won’t run on. A factory reset via your device manufacturer may resolve this.
- Still stuck? Contact Digital Banking support. Call 08600 08600 (available 24/7, see above) if the issue persists after trying the above.
How to get your Absa IT3(b) tax certificate
If you’ve earned interest on an Absa savings or investment account, you’ll need an IT3(b) certificate to complete your SARS tax return. Absa makes these available for download directly through its digital channels rather than by request:
- Log in to Absa Online Banking or the Absa Banking App.
- Go to Statements. Look for a Tax Certificates or IT3(b) option within your account’s statement section.
- Select the relevant tax year. South Africa’s tax year runs 1 March to end of February.
- Download and save the certificate as a PDF for your records or to upload directly to SARS eFiling.
If you only have an Absa home loan and no transactional or savings account, you won’t see this option in the app — contact Absa Home Loans on 0860 111 007 instead, and they can issue the certificate directly.

Why does my Absa Banking App keep crashing or looping on the PIN screen?
This is usually fixed by updating the app via your app store, then clearing the app’s cache (not its data) in your device settings. If it persists, your device’s operating system may be outdated or unsupported.
How do I get my Absa IT3(b) tax certificate?
Log in to Absa Online Banking or the Absa Banking App, go to Statements, select Tax Certificates or IT3(b), choose the relevant tax year, and download the PDF. Home loan-only clients without a transactional account should contact Absa Home Loans on 0860 111 007 instead.
Absa Branch Code (632005) & SWIFT Code — Plus Branches & ATMs
Source: existing AfrifinHub article. Original WordPress modification: 2026-09-17. This is not a new fact-check date.
Absa’s footprint
Absa’s network mix is shifting: traditional full-service branches fell 18% to 359 as of 30 June 2026, while smaller, more agile Sales and Service outlets grew 76% to 215 over the same period — now 37% of the network, up from 22%. Combined, total points of presence actually rose 2% to 566. The ATM network declined 2% to 4,976.
Absa Branch Code & SWIFT Code
Absa uses a single universal branch code — 632005 — for every account, regardless of which branch it was originally opened at or which account type it is (Transact, Gold, Ultimate, Premium, savings or business). Use 632005 for domestic EFTs, salary payments, debit orders and stop orders. For international payments coming into an Absa account, the sender needs Absa’s SWIFT/BIC code, ABSAZAJJ, not the branch code — the two are not interchangeable.
Some older payment forms or a small number of international remittance systems may still ask for your account’s original, branch-specific code rather than the universal one. If you’re asked for this, you can find it in the Absa Banking App under your account details, on a recent bank statement, or by calling 0860 008 600.
How to find your nearest branch or ATM
Absa’s official branch and ATM locator is at absa.co.za/find-us. Enter your suburb, town or postal code and it will show the closest branches and ATMs, along with opening hours and the services available at each location — some ATMs also offer cardless CashSend withdrawals for non-Absa customers. Because branch hours, temporary closures and new locations change regularly, this locator is a more reliable source than a static address list.
- Search by suburb, city or postal code on absa.co.za/find-us
- Filter results to show ATMs only, branches only, or both
- Check opening hours before visiting, especially over weekends and public holidays
- Look for an “ATM on site” indicator if you need both branch and ATM services
Typical Absa branch trading hours
Absa doesn’t publish one universal set of branch hours — trading hours vary by branch type and location, so treat the figures below as a general guide only and always confirm the specific branch’s hours on the absa.co.za/find-us locator before visiting.
| Branch type | Weekdays | Saturday | Sunday |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standalone branches | Around 08:30–15:30 | Around 09:00–12:00 | Usually closed |
| Shopping mall branches | Often extended, following mall hours (sometimes to 18:00–19:00) | Often extended (to ~13:00–15:00 or later) | Some open, typically 09:00–17:00 |
Mall-based branches in particular can vary widely — some close by midday on Saturdays like standalone branches, while others stay open into the evening on the mall’s own schedule. Public holiday hours also differ by branch. The absa.co.za/find-us locator shows the exact, current hours for any specific branch, which is the only reliable way to confirm before you visit.
Why some branches are becoming self-service outlets
Absa is actively restructuring its physical network as more customers move to digital banking: traditional full-service branches are being consolidated in favour of smaller, more agile Sales and Service outlets, and as of mid-2026 these smaller-format outlets made up 37% of Absa’s network, up from 22% a year earlier. If your usual branch has closed or changed format, it’s most likely part of this shift rather than a full market withdrawal — Absa’s total points of presence across South Africa actually grew slightly over the same period, even as traditional branch numbers fell. The locator above will always reflect the current format and services at your nearest location.
What you can do at an Absa ATM
Beyond cash withdrawals, Absa ATMs support cash and cheque deposits at many locations, mini-statements, balance enquiries, PIN changes, prepaid airtime and electricity purchases, and CashSend — which lets you send money to any South African cellphone number, withdrawable by the recipient without needing an Absa card or account.
Reporting a faulty ATM
If an Absa ATM isn’t working, call 0860 286 286 and quote the ATM number shown on the machine’s screen, or select “Talk to us” directly on the ATM.
Frequently asked questions
How many Absa branches are there in South Africa?
As of 30 June 2026, Absa operated 359 traditional full-service branches plus 215 smaller Sales and Service outlets (566 total points of presence), and 4,976 ATMs. Absa is actively shifting toward smaller-format outlets and digital channels, so check the absa.co.za/find-us locator for what’s actually near you.
What is Absa’s branch code?
632005. This is Absa’s universal branch code and works for every Absa account and branch across South Africa — you don’t need a specific branch code for domestic EFTs, salary payments or debit orders.
What is Absa’s SWIFT or BIC code?
ABSAZAJJ. Use this for international payments into an Absa account — it’s different from the branch code (632005), which is only used for domestic transactions.
What time does Absa close on Saturday?
Most standalone branches close around 12:00 on Saturdays, though this varies — some close earlier and shopping mall branches often stay open later, following the mall’s own hours. Check the specific branch on absa.co.za/find-us for its exact Saturday hours.
Is Absa open on Sunday?
Most standalone branches are closed on Sundays, but some shopping mall branches open, typically around 09:00–17:00. Confirm via absa.co.za/find-us since this varies by location.
Can I withdraw cash from an Absa ATM without a card?
Yes, via CashSend — a recipient can withdraw cash sent to their cellphone number at an Absa ATM without needing an Absa card or account.
How do I report a broken Absa ATM?
Call 0860 286 286 with the ATM’s on-screen number, or select “Talk to us” on the ATM itself.
Are Absa branch hours the same at every location?
No, hours vary by branch and can change on public holidays — always check the specific branch’s listed hours on the absa.co.za/find-us locator before visiting.
