How GoTyme Bank Personal Loans work
GoTyme Bank’s Personal Loans are unsecured digital loans aimed at everyday needs — school fees, home improvements, emergency expenses, or bridging finance between paydays. The product is delivered in partnership with TFG Money, and applications are handled entirely online, with no paperwork required upfront. Once a loan is approved and the repayment mandate is set up, funds are paid into the borrower’s account directly. GoTyme markets this as among the lowest-cost personal loans in South Africa, though the exact rate depends on an individual credit assessment and isn’t published as a flat figure.
Eligibility requirements
- 18 years or older
- Valid South African ID
- Available to both existing GoTyme Bank customers and non-customers
- Active GoTyme app users may qualify for higher loan amounts
- Bank statements showing the last 3 salary deposits may be requested during the application, emailed to loandoc@gotyme.co.za if needed
Because eligibility is assessed digitally rather than through a branch interview, the strength of an applicant’s banking history matters more than it might at a traditional lender. Non-customers without an existing relationship with GoTyme are still eligible, but should expect the affordability check to lean more heavily on the 3 months of bank statements submitted, since there’s no in-app account history to draw on.
How to apply
Application steps
Existing GoTyme Bank customers can apply directly from the app: go to Personal Loans and tap Apply Now. Non-customers start the application from GoTyme’s Personal Loans page online.
How repayments work
Monthly repayments are collected via DebiCheck from the borrower’s chosen bank account. DebiCheck confirms the debit-order mandate details with the borrower before the arrangement is processed, so the borrower sees and approves exactly what will be deducted. The loan and its repayment schedule can be tracked inside the GoTyme Bank app. As a registered credit provider (NCRCP 10774), GoTyme must comply with the National Credit Act, meaning the interest rate and terms must be disclosed to the borrower before they accept the credit offer.
GoTyme’s published pages do not set out a standard rollover, extension or top-up process for this loan, nor a separate early-settlement procedure. Borrowers wanting to settle early or adjust a repayment arrangement should contact GoTyme’s Customer Care directly on 0860 999 119.
How is the interest rate decided?
GoTyme doesn’t publish a single flat rate for Personal Loans — the interest rate offered depends on an individual credit assessment carried out during the application, factoring in the borrower’s credit record and, for existing GoTyme customers, how they use their GoTyme account. The final rate is shown to the borrower during the live application, before they accept the loan, and must stay within the maximum rate allowed under the National Credit Act’s in duplum and initiation-fee rules. Because the rate is assessed per applicant, two borrowers requesting the same amount can be offered different rates depending on their individual risk profile.
When does a Personal Loan make more sense than MoreTyme?
MoreTyme suits a single, smaller purchase that can be repaid in full within two months, split across 3 interest-free instalments at one specific retailer. A Personal Loan suits a larger, one-off need — school fees, a home repair, medical costs, or debt consolidation — where the borrower needs cash paid directly into their account rather than a payment plan tied to a specific purchase, and is prepared to pay interest in exchange for a longer, more flexible repayment term.
