Card details
Flexi Core Credit Card
Absa’s entry-level, low-fee credit card, designed for customers building a credit history or wanting simple, cost-effective credit. It carries a lower monthly fee than the Gold and Premium tiers and offers an interest-free period of up to 57 days on qualifying purchases, plus basic travel insurance.
Gold Credit Card
A mid-tier card built for everyday spending, with a monthly fee of R55, fuel cashback — a practical benefit given South African petrol prices — plus buyer protection, price protection and extended warranty on qualifying purchases. Minimum income requirements are comparatively accessible, from around R4,000 a month, and the card carries the same up-to-57-day interest-free period as Absa’s other credit cards.
Premium Banking Credit Card
Bundled with the Premium Banking current account (from R240 a month), this card drops the separate monthly credit card fee and adds Bidvest Premier Airport Lounge access at domestic and international lounges, R3 million in automatic basic travel insurance (with the option to buy additional top-up cover), and full Absa Rewards eligibility.
Ultimate Banking Credit Card
Paired with the Ultimate Banking current account for customers earning a minimum of R7,000 a month, this card includes up to R1.5 million in travel insurance and Bidvest Lounge access. Step up to Ultimate Plus (R25,000/month minimum income, R220/month account fee — broadly equivalent to Premium Banking) and travel insurance rises to R3 million, alongside a 24/7 concierge service. A no-credit version of Ultimate Banking is also available, with different benefits, features and monthly fees — ask an Absa consultant for the current comparison.
How to apply
Applications can be made online through absa.co.za, via the Absa Banking App, or in branch. You’ll need a valid South African ID book or smart ID card (or a passport for foreign nationals), proof of residence not older than three months, and your latest three consecutive months’ proof of income. Absa also offers an online pre-qualification tool that checks your likely eligibility without affecting your credit score.
Frequently asked questions
