Rate disclosure: Absa publishes a “from” rate of 13.75% per annum on its standard Personal Loan; your actual rate is personalised to your credit profile. By law, unsecured credit in South Africa is capped at 26.90% per annum under the National Credit Act The legal maximum is linked to the repo rate and can change. Confirm the current maximum and your actual rate in a written quotation. Always confirm your personalised rate and total cost of credit with Absa before signing.

Express Loan R1,500–R8,000 1–6 months Quick, smaller unplanned expenses
Instant Loan R350–R8,000 Up to 35 days Immediate cash via ATM, app or online banking

Absa also offers a Switch & Save option that lets you consolidate an existing loan from another lender into an Absa Personal Loan, potentially at a more favourable personalised rate. The 84-month maximum term is among the longest offered by any South African bank, matched only by a small number of competitors — a longer term lowers your monthly instalment but increases the total interest paid over the life of the loan, so it’s worth weighing against a shorter term if you can afford the higher monthly repayment.

Interest, fees and credit life cover

Your interest rate is personalised based on your credit profile, starting from 13.75% per annum on the standard Personal Loan. As an example, Absa’s own illustration shows a R50,000 loan over 36 months at 18% per annum working out to roughly R2,113 a month, inclusive of service and initiation fees. An initiation fee (up to roughly R1,207.50 plus VAT on larger loans) and a monthly service fee apply on top of interest.

Absa requires a Credit Protection Plan (credit life insurance) on all Personal Loans, covering death, disability, critical illness, terminal illness and retrenchment or loss of income. The premium is capped at R4.50 per R1,000 of outstanding balance per month. You have the right to substitute this with an equivalent existing policy within the timeframe set out in your loan agreement.

Who qualifies

  • South African citizen or permanent resident, aged 18 or older
  • Regular monthly income — from around R1,500–R2,000, depending on the loan term
  • Bank account for salary deposits and debit order repayments
  • Existing Absa customers may see a provisional loan offer in the Absa Banking App

Documents you’ll need

A valid South African ID; three months’ payslips or bank statements as proof of income; proof of residence not older than three months if you’re not an existing Absa customer; self-employed applicants need an ITA34 tax certificate, six months’ financials and an accountant’s letter; pensioners need a pension or annuity statement.

Absa Home Loans: Rates, MyHome Loan & How to Apply (2026)

Source: existing AfrifinHub article. Original WordPress modification: 2026-09-17. This is not a new fact-check date.

Rate disclosure: Absa’s home loan interest rate is linked to the prime lending rate and personalised to your credit profile — Absa does not publish one fixed “from” rate. The rate you’re offered is contracted only once you sign your home loan agreement; your home loan statement shows the rate you’re currently being charged. Always confirm your personalised rate with Absa before proceeding.

Absa’s home loan options

Standard Home Loan

Absa’s standard home loan offers up to 100% finance, with a choice between a variable interest rate (which moves with the prime lending rate) or a fixed rate for a set period. You can change your term at any time at no additional cost, and manage your loan and see extra payments through Absa Online and the Absa Banking App.

MyHome Loan

Aimed at first-time buyers, MyHome Loan offers up to 110% finance and 50% off attorney bond registration costs, with repayment terms up to 30 years. It’s designed for buyers who may not have a large deposit saved.

Building Loan

For customers designing and building a home from scratch, Absa’s Building Loan releases funds in stages — typically six progress payments tied to construction milestones — rather than as a single lump sum.

International Mortgages

Non-South African citizens investing in SA residential property can apply through Absa’s International Mortgages, though South African law requires a 50% deposit for non-resident buyers, with a maximum term of 30 years.

Government subsidy & discounted rate eligibility

First-time homebuyers earning between R3,501 and R22,000 a month may qualify for South Africa’s First Home Finance government subsidy, which can be used as a deposit, to cover attorney costs, or to reduce the loan amount. Separately, Absa offers a discounted variable interest rate to customers who keep a qualifying account active: depositing at least R3,000 a month into a Gold Value Bundle or Premium Banking account, or R35,000 a month into a Private Banking account, and repaying the home loan via debit order from an Absa Cheque Account.

Documents you’ll need

  • South African ID, or passport/permanent residency permit/visa for non-citizens
  • Three months’ bank statements (employed) or six months’ (self-employed)
  • Employment contract, if you don’t receive a payslip or were recently employed
  • Proof of pension or advice letter, for pensioners
  • Your latest IT34 tax assessment (last tax year)
  • Offer to purchase, if you’ve already found a property

How to apply

Start with Absa’s free Home Loan Pre-qualification tool to get an estimate of what you can afford and a certificate to show sellers and agents you’re serious — available on absa.co.za or the Absa Homeowner app. Once you’ve found a property and had an offer to purchase accepted, apply for finance online (Absa states this takes around 15 minutes), by calling 0860 111 007, or at any Absa branch. Absa’s digital application also lets you track your application status from any device.

Absa Vehicle Finance: Rates, Balloon Payments & How to Apply (2026)

Source: existing AfrifinHub article. Original WordPress modification: 2026-09-17. This is not a new fact-check date.

Rate disclosure: Absa’s vehicle finance interest rate is personalised to your credit profile, deposit and the vehicle itself, and is offered as either a fixed rate (unchanged for the term) or a variable rate (linked to the prime lending rate). Absa doesn’t publish a single “from” rate for vehicle finance — always confirm your personalised rate before signing.

Absa’s vehicle finance options

Instalment Sale Agreement

The standard option: you make monthly payments over a term of 24 to 72 months and own the vehicle once all payments (including any balloon amount) are complete. Choose a fixed or variable interest rate, and optionally add a balloon/residual payment to lower your monthly instalment — though you’ll owe that lump sum at the end of the term.

Islamic Vehicle Finance

A Shari’ah-compliant, lease-to-own alternative: you use the vehicle for an agreed period at an agreed price, with the option to purchase it at the end of the term. It includes similar access to credit protection and insurance services as the standard agreement.

Business Vehicle & Asset Finance

For businesses, Absa offers fleet finance and asset finance separately, including Fleet Cards accepted at around 16,000 fuel and repair merchants nationwide and all South African toll plazas, plus specialised solutions for imported and aviation assets.

Understanding the balloon payment

A balloon (or residual value) payment is a lump sum due at the end of your finance term, instead of paying off the full vehicle price through your monthly instalments. It lowers your monthly repayment, which can make a more expensive vehicle more affordable month-to-month — but you need a plan for that final payment when it comes due, whether that’s cash savings, refinancing the balloon amount, or trading in or selling the vehicle. If you settle early or trade in before reaching the point where the car’s value equals your outstanding balance, the balloon amount is still payable.

Eligibility & documents you’ll need

  • At least 18 years old, not under debt review or an administration order
  • South African ID or valid proof of identity
  • Proof of income (payslips or bank statements)
  • Proof of residence
  • Demonstrated financial stability to cover the monthly repayment

How to apply

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum term for Absa Vehicle Finance?

72 months (6 years). Terms are available from 24 months up to 72 months.

What is a balloon payment on a car loan?

A lump sum due at the end of your finance term, used to lower your monthly instalments. You’re still responsible for paying it — whether through savings, refinancing, or selling/trading in the vehicle.

Does Absa offer Islamic (Shari’ah-compliant) vehicle finance?

Yes, Absa’s Islamic Vehicle Finance is a lease-to-own alternative to the standard Instalment Sale Agreement.

Can I settle my Absa vehicle finance early?

Yes, though under Section 125 of the National Credit Act, an early termination charge (up to three months’ interest) may apply if your principal debt is R250,000 or more.
