Why trust this guide: Every rate, fee and product detail below is sourced directly from Standard Bank’s official website and 2026 pricing guides, or from SARB/NCR regulatory information. Standard Bank held core account, home loan, vehicle finance and personal loan fees flat for 2026 and waived several transaction-decline charges — a detail confirmed in its own pricing guides and reported by IOL Business on 2 December 2025. In South Africa it serves personal, business, corporate and wealth clients through an extensive branch and ATM network, full digital banking (App, Internet Banking, cellphone banking), and its own loyalty programme, UCount Rewards. Standard Bank’s core personal products

Bank accounts

Standard Bank’s personal account range runs from the free Sum1 account for children, through the entry-level, pay-as-you-use MyMo Account (R7.50 a month), up through Achieva (formerly Elite, R120 a month from 2026) and PureSave savings, to the premium Signature Banking account (R640 a month from 1 January 2026), which bundles travel, lifestyle and wealth-planning benefits. Most accounts come with a Visa or Mastercard debit card and can be linked to UCount Rewards for an additional membership fee.

Credit cards

Standard Bank offers a tiered Mastercard credit card range — Blue, Gold, Titanium, Platinum and World Citizen — plus Diners Club variants, with monthly service fees from R40 to R300 depending on tier. Every card carries a 55-day interest-free period on purchases (not cash withdrawals) if the statement balance is settled in full, and a once-off initiation fee of R200 applies to new accounts.

UCount Rewards

UCount is Standard Bank’s points-based loyalty programme, carrying its own R25/month membership fee (paid by debit order from a Standard Bank personal account) separate from your account or card fees. Once registered, credit card spend earns up to 3 times more points than the same spend on a debit or cheque card, and partner retailers — Checkers, Shoprite, Sixty60, and Caltex/Astron Energy fuel stations — carry boosted earn rates on top of the base rate. Points are redeemed for shopping, fuel or travel, and your earn rate improves as your Tier Level rises with continued qualifying spend. UCount is distinct from once-off merchant discounts (see the dedicated Rewards and Card Discounts pages), which are time-bound promotions layered on top of the core points programme.

Personal loans

Standard Bank’s Term Loan product lends from R1,000 to R300,000, over repayment terms of 12 to 84 months, with a monthly service fee of R69 and a once-off initiation fee of up to R1,207.50 (VAT inclusive). Interest rates are personalised up to a maximum of prime plus 17.5%, as capped by the National Credit Act.

Which Standard Bank account tier fits you?

Unlike cross-bank comparison sites that treat Standard Bank as a single row in a table, the bank actually runs its own internal ladder — most customers start on one tier and move up as their income or needs change, all within the same UCount ecosystem. Here’s how the tiers map to real situations:

If this describes you…Consider this tierWhy
Student, first job, or mainly digital/cashless spenderMyMo Account (R7.50/month)Pay-as-you-use pricing means you’re not charged for features you won’t use; free unlimited card swipes
Want to earn interest on a lump sum or emergency fundPureSaveBuilt for interest-earning savings rather than day-to-day transacting
Outgrown MyMo but don’t need Signature’s premium bundleAchieva (formerly Elite)Fuller transactional features than MyMo, without Signature-level fees
Higher income, travel often, want bundled lifestyle perksSignature Banking (R640/month)Bundles wealth advice, flight discounts, fuel rewards and a free child’s account into one fee

Standard Bank’s biggest strength is this breadth: transactional banking, credit, home loans, vehicle finance, investments and insurance all sit under one group, tied together by a single loyalty programme (UCount), so moving up a tier as your income grows doesn’t mean switching banks or restarting your rewards history.

Digital banking: how customers actually manage their accounts

Most day-to-day banking with Standard Bank happens outside a branch. The Standard Bank App is the primary channel — it covers payments, transfers, prepaid airtime/data/electricity, virtual card creation for safer online shopping, card freezing and limit changes, credit card and loan applications, and UCount Rewards management, all in one place. Internet Banking offers the same core functionality through a browser for customers who prefer a desktop. For customers without smartphone data, cellphone banking (dial *120*2345# for MyMo customers) and telephone banking (0860 123 108) cover the basics. Standard Bank also runs a WhatsApp ChatBot (save +27 64 570 0291 and send “Hi” to start) for quick queries and call-back requests, and a Help Centre with step-by-step guides for common tasks. Given this range of channels, most customers can complete an entire account opening, card application, or loan application without visiting a branch at all.

For payments, Standard Bank’s universal branch code is 051001 (works for any branch, for domestic EFT transfers), and its SWIFT code for international transfers is SBZAZAJJ. See the Branches & ATMs page for the full breakdown of when to use each.
