Nedbank personal loan terms at a glance
Representative example (R50,000 over 84 months)
| Detail | Nedbank personal loan |
|---|---|
| Loan amount | R2,000 to R400,000 |
| Repayment term | 6 to 84 months |
| Interest rate | Personalised, based on credit profile — subject to the applicable NCA maximum; confirm the current rate in your written quotation |
| Monthly service fee | R69 |
| Initiation fee | R165 plus 10% of the amount above R1,000, capped at R1,207.50 (incl. VAT) |
| Credit life insurance | Compulsory — Nedbank’s own cover, or your own qualifying policy |
| Early settlement | No penalty fee for settling early |
Note: the NCA maximum rate on unsecured credit is calculated from a formula linked to the SARB repo rate, and adjusts whenever the SARB changes it. The South African Reserve Bank raised the repo rate on 28 May 2026 (the first hike since 2023) — see the News page for details. This may mean the true current NCA maximum is slightly different from the 26.90% figure above; confirm the exact current cap with Nedbank or the National Credit Regulator (0860 627 627) if it’s central to your decision.
Other Nedbank lending options
Alongside the standard personal loan, Nedbank also offers a revolving personal loan facility — an approved credit limit you can draw down and repay as needed, paying interest only on the drawn balance, reviewed annually. This suits unpredictable cash-flow needs better than a single fixed-amount instalment loan. Nedbank also offers a dedicated debt consolidation loan, which settles your existing creditors directly and replaces multiple obligations with a single monthly Nedbank instalment. Nedbank is currently the only one of South Africa’s big-four banks to pay a rewards benefit (Greenbacks) on personal loan repayments. For bigger, asset-linked borrowing, see the separate Home Loans and Vehicle Finance (MFC) pages — these work differently from a personal loan since the property or vehicle itself secures the debt.
Overdraft facility
An overdraft works differently from a personal loan: it’s an ongoing credit facility with no fixed term or repayment amount, linked directly to your existing Nedbank transactional account rather than a separate loan account. The extra money becomes available once your account balance reaches zero, whether you draw on it or not, and you’re only charged interest on the portion you actually use — not the full approved limit. The overdraft facility fee is R69 a month (MiGoals Premium accountholders get a R30 discount on this), and the interest rate is variable, calculated as the prime lending rate plus or minus a factor set out in your personal quotation — so your overdraft rate moves automatically whenever the SARB changes the repo rate (see the News page for the current rate environment). You can apply for an overdraft when you open a new account, or add one later via the Money app, Online Banking or a branch, and you can increase or decrease your limit digitally at any time.
Nedbank also offers optional Overdraft Assurance, a credit-life-style insurance policy specifically for your overdraft facility, with no medical tests required. It can cover your overdraft balance (up to R30,000 paid over 10 monthly instalments) if you’re retrenched, up to R50,000 if you become permanently or temporarily disabled, or up to R50,000 if you pass away.
What to know before you apply
Customer reviews of Nedbank’s lending experience are mixed: many describe a straightforward application and fast payout, while a recurring complaint theme involves delays in updating credit bureau records after a loan is settled early or in full, and confusion when an account is sold or handed to a third-party debt collector. If you settle a loan early or in full, it’s worth keeping your proof of payment and following up in writing (via the Client Complaints Helpline, see the Helpline page) to confirm your account is closed and your credit bureau listing is updated.
What can a Nedbank personal loan be used for?
Nedbank personal loans are general-purpose — funds can be used for medical bills, home renovations, education costs, weddings and life events, debt consolidation, or unexpected expenses. There’s no requirement to specify or prove the exact use of the funds once the loan is approved and paid out.
Frequently asked questions
How much can I borrow from Nedbank?
Between R2,000 and R400,000, repayable over 6 to 84 months.
Do I have to be a Nedbank client to get a personal loan?
No. Non-customers can apply, though the final offer still depends on an affordability and credit assessment.
Is insurance compulsory on a Nedbank personal loan?
Yes, for the full term of the loan — either Nedbank’s own credit life cover or your own qualifying policy.
Is there a penalty for paying off a Nedbank loan early?
No. Nedbank doesn’t charge a penalty fee for settling a personal loan sooner than the agreed term.
How long does it take to get the money?
Once you accept the offer, funds can be paid into your account anywhere from 3 to 90 minutes later, or the next working day if you apply in the evening.
What interest rate will I actually get on a Nedbank personal loan?
Your interest rate depends on your credit profile and the lender's assessment. Compare the written pre-agreement quotation, including interest, fees and credit life insurance. The applicable legal maximum depends on the credit category and prevailing regulations; a historic percentage is not a current quotation.Does Nedbank offer a revolving credit facility instead of a fixed loan?
Yes. Nedbank’s revolving personal loan facility gives you an approved credit limit to draw down and repay as needed, charging interest only on the drawn balance.
What’s the difference between a Nedbank overdraft and a personal loan?
An overdraft has no fixed term or repayment amount and is linked to your existing account — you’re charged R69 a month plus variable interest (prime rate plus or minus a factor) only on what you draw. A personal loan has a fixed term, fixed monthly instalment and a set interest rate agreed upfront.

Nedbank home loan benefits at a glance
First-time homebuyer offer
If you already have a home loan with Nedbank and take out another one, you can qualify for a further 0.25%–0.50% discount on your interest rate on top of the salary-banked discount. These offers are subject to Nedbank’s internal credit lending criteria and can change, so confirm current terms when you apply.
Eligibility and documents
- A good credit score and a stable, verifiable income
- Nedbank conducts a full affordability assessment before approval — as a general guideline in the home loan industry, monthly bond repayments are usually kept well within a set percentage of gross income
- A deposit isn’t always required — first-time buyers can qualify for finance up to 109% of the purchase price — but having one can improve your approval chances and lower your monthly repayment
- Valid South African ID, proof of income, and standard FICA documentation
- Self-employed applicants, trusts, companies and close corporations can also apply, though the process and required documents differ from a standard salaried application
How to apply
Buying a Nedbank repossessed property
Nedbank sells properties it has repossessed from customers who defaulted on their home loans — listed as “properties in possession” on Nedbank’s own site. These are sold voetstoots (as-is, with no warranties), and Nedbank won’t accept an offer that’s conditional on you first selling an existing property. To buy one, you submit an Offer to Purchase directly to Nedbank rather than bidding at a public auction, and pay a non-refundable reservation fee (which counts toward your eventual transfer costs) once your offer is accepted. You can use a Nedbank home loan to finance the purchase of a repossessed property, subject to the usual affordability assessment. Repossessed properties are commonly sold below open-market value, but the transfer process typically takes longer than a standard property purchase, so budget extra time as well as money.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a 100% home loan from Nedbank?
Yes — first-time homebuyers can qualify for financing up to 109% of the purchase price, with the extra amount covering attorney bond registration and transfer costs.
Does Nedbank offer cashback on home loans?
Yes, first-time buyers can get up to R20,000 cashback into their Nedbank transactional account when they apply online, on the Money app, or through the Contact Centre.
Can I finance solar panels through a Nedbank home loan?
Yes. You can apply for a new home loan of up to 110% and use the extra 10% for a renewable energy solution, use a NedRevolve facility, get a further loan on an existing bond, or take standalone solar asset finance over up to 96 months if you don’t have a home loan.
Do I get a discount if I bank with Nedbank?
Yes — a 0.25% interest rate discount if your salary is paid into a Nedbank account, plus a further 0.25%–0.50% discount if you take out another home loan with Nedbank.
Can I buy a Nedbank repossessed house?
Yes. Nedbank sells its own repossessed properties directly — submit an Offer to Purchase, pay a non-refundable reservation fee once accepted, and you can finance the purchase with a Nedbank home loan. Properties are sold voetstoots (as-is) and often below market value, but the transfer process takes longer than a standard purchase.
Nedbank MFC Vehicle Finance: Rates, Fees & How to Apply

Fees
| Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
| Monthly admin fee | R69 |
| Once-off initiation fee | Capped at R1,207.50 (incl. VAT), using the same NCA-prescribed formula as a personal loan |
| Interest rate | Personalised — fixed or variable, based on your credit profile; illustrative default is prime + 3% |
Required and optional insurance
Comprehensive vehicle insurance covering the full finance term is compulsory for MFC vehicle finance, as it is with any vehicle financier — if your car is damaged or written off, you remain liable for the full outstanding loan amount even if you can no longer use the vehicle, so insurance protects you from that gap. You can arrange cover through Nedbank Group Insurance Brokers, or independently through a dealership or your own insurer if you find a more competitive rate.
Separately, MFC Vehicle Finance Assurance is an optional credit-life-style policy for your vehicle finance specifically, open to permanently employed, fixed-term contract, self-employed, and pensioner applicants. If you pass away during the finance term, it pays out an amount equal to your outstanding balance at the time of death, less any arrears and interest that had accumulated on those arrears.
R200/month cashback offer
If you take out MFC vehicle finance and hold a Nedbank MiGoals Plus or MiGoals Premium account, you can earn R200 a month cash back for the duration of your vehicle finance loan — a genuine ongoing saving that effectively offsets a meaningful chunk of the monthly admin fee and then some. Confirm current eligibility and terms for this offer when you apply, since promotional terms can change.
How to apply
MFC vehicle finance can be applied for online, and Nedbank describes the process as a simple five-step application. You can also browse vehicles through Avo Auto, Nedbank’s online car marketplace, or find a vehicle through an MFC-approved dealership or an MFC vehicle auction. Before applying, use MFC’s online finance calculators to get a realistic estimate of your likely instalment based on the vehicle price, deposit, term and rate you’re considering, and remember to budget for comprehensive insurance, fuel, licensing and maintenance costs on top of the instalment itself — not just the repayment amount in isolation.
Frequently asked questions
What is MFC?
MFC is Nedbank’s vehicle and asset finance division, offering finance for new and used vehicles bought from dealerships or private sellers, and for moving existing vehicle finance to Nedbank.
What terms does MFC vehicle finance offer?
Terms from 12 to 96 months, with a choice of fixed or variable interest rate, and optional deposit and balloon payment structures.
Is insurance compulsory for MFC vehicle finance?
Yes, comprehensive vehicle insurance covering the full finance term is compulsory, as it is with any vehicle financier in South Africa.
Can I get cashback on my Nedbank vehicle finance?
Yes — MiGoals Plus or MiGoals Premium accountholders can earn R200 a month cash back for the duration of their MFC vehicle finance.
What’s a balloon payment and should I choose one?
A balloon payment is a lump sum due at the end of your finance term instead of being spread into your monthly instalments. It lowers your monthly repayment but leaves a large final payment — read the full offer carefully to understand your total end-of-term exposure before choosing this structure.
