Investec Savings Accounts: Instant, Notice & Fixed-Term Compared

Investec’s savings account range

Investec offers a complete range of savings accounts so clients can access funds on their own terms while earning competitive interest. Every option shares two things: no monthly fees, and a minimum deposit of R100,000 to open — these are cash investment products for people with meaningful lump sums to place, not everyday micro-savings accounts.

The three access types

TypeHow it works
Instant accessImmediate access to funds, with a choice of prime-linked or money market-linked rate
Notice depositBetter returns in exchange for giving notice before withdrawal, with a choice of prime-linked or money market-linked rate
Fixed-term depositFunds locked away for a fixed term for the strongest rates, including fixed, prime-linked and tax-free savings options

Within fixed-term deposits, Investec offers a dedicated Tax-Free Fixed Deposit for clients wanting to use their annual tax-free savings allowance, with fixed terms ranging from one month to five years. You can also choose whether interest is compounded monthly or paid out, depending on whether you want growth or income from your savings. Daily interest rates for all savings products are published on Investec’s site and updated regularly — always check the current published rate before committing funds, since these move with the market.

PrimeSaver and the Cash Management Account, by name

Two specific instant-access products sit behind the generic category above. PrimeSaver offers 100% immediate access with a prime-linked rate, calculated daily and paid monthly, available to all individuals — clients without an Investec Private Banking account need a minimum R100,000 deposit, but existing Private Banking clients face no minimum. Separately, the Cash Management Account is a call deposit linked to your Private Bank Account, with a tiered, prime-linked interest rate and immediate access to your funds, calculated on your account balance rather than a flat rate.

Which savings account fits you?

Rather than reading through all four product types, answer two quick questions and we’ll point you to the right one — no rate quoted, since those change daily and are best confirmed directly with Investec.

Do you need a Private Bank Account to save with Investec?

No — this is a common misconception. You don’t need a Private Bank Account to open an Investec savings account, and you can save from R100,000, whether or not you meet the income threshold for Private Banking. The one exception is the Foreign Currency Call Account, which is available only to Investec Private Bank Account holders over the age of 18. If you want a tax-free fixed deposit transferred in from another institution, contact the Personal Cash Investments team directly on 011 291 6011, Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00.

Deposit protection

South African bank deposits, including savings held with Investec, fall under the Corporation for Deposit Insurance (CODI), a subsidiary of the South African Reserve Bank that became a legal entity on 24 March 2023 and came into effect in April 2024. CODI covers qualifying deposits up to a set threshold per depositor per institution — confirm the current threshold on the SARB’s CODI page, since coverage levels are periodically reviewed.
